This study investigated the waste management strategies used to promote proper hygiene among residents in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State, Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design, and data were collected using a self-designed questionnaire titled “Questionnaire on Waste Management Strategies in Ondo West Local Government Area”. One hundred (100) health officials were selected as respondents using purposive sampling. The questionnaire used a four-point Likert scale of Strongly Disagree (SD), Disagree (D), Agree (A), and Strongly Agree (SA). Two research questions guided the study. Data collected were analyzed using frequency counts, percentages, means, and standard deviations. Findings revealed that the effectiveness of the waste management strategies practiced in Ondo West Local Government Area is moderate. The common waste management practices used include burying waste and disposing of waste in nearby bushes. The major challenges identified include non-compliance with waste management standards, inadequate funding, government negligence, and lack of proper data management. The study recommends that regular training programs be organized for waste management officials to enhance their awareness of the implications of poor waste management. It also encourages officials to carry out their duties diligently to prevent health risks and promote a cleaner environment.
